Dubai is taking a giant leap toward sustainable transportation with the announcement of over 250 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations set to be installed across the city by 2025. This initiative, led by Parkin Company PJSC in partnership with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), aims to enhance EV infrastructure, making it easier for residents and visitors to embrace eco-friendly mobility.
The new charging stations, equipped with 22-kilowatt AC chargers, will be strategically placed in high-density residential areas, particularly in zones A and C, where access to EV charging facilities has been limited. Each station will serve two parking spaces, ensuring convenience for EV owners.
This expansion is part of DEWA’s broader plan to grow its EV Green Charger network from 740 charging points to 1,000 by the end of 2025. Launched in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative has supported Dubai’s transition to green mobility, aligning with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
One of the standout features of this initiative is the integration of EV charging payments with Parkin’s mobile app and digital wallet. Users can now pay for both parking fees and EV charging in a single transaction, streamlining the process and enhancing convenience.

The push for more EV charging stations comes as the global EV market continues to grow. By 2030, the EV market is projected to reach $800 billion, with Dubai playing a pivotal role in the Middle East’s transition to electric mobility.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Encouraging the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles is key to reducing carbon emissions and achieving the UAE’s climate goals. This expansion will make Dubai a more sustainable and livable city.”
For those considering switching to electric vehicles, the cost of charging is a crucial factor. In the UAE, the average cost of using a public EV charging station ranges from AED 0.29 to AED 0.49 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), making it significantly cheaper than traditional fuel. Home charging setups, on the other hand, can cost between AED 2,000 and AED 10,000, depending on the charger type and installation requirements.
Globally, the number of EV charging stations has surpassed 2.7 million, with rapid growth expected in the coming years. Dubai’s investment in EV infrastructure positions it as a regional leader in sustainable transportation, catering to the increasing demand for electric vehicles.
